Youth Sports Injury Care
When it comes to evaluation and management of youth sports injuries, Dr. Verma’s focus centers on injury prevention strategies and improving injury outcomes.
The bodies of youth athletes are different than bodies of adult athletes. There are unique considerations in terms of anatomy that can predispose young athletes to injuries that may not necessarily occur in adults. Identifying the specific injuries is important, as the outcome of these injuries can impact not only participation in sports but overall quality of life as well.
Dr. Verma evaluates and manages multiple types of injuries in youth athletes, including acute injuries like fractures, overuse injuries like little leaguer’s shoulder, and concussions. He also partners with patients and their families in developing evidence-based, sport-specific, athlete-specific treatment plans.
Dr. Verma is actively involved in a series of multi-center research studies with physicians and researchers from Emory University, Lurie Children’s Hospital, and Boston Children’s Hospital. The studies evaluate health-related quality of life outcomes in young athletes after different types of injury. The studies received funding support from the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (AMSSM). The first study of the series, titled “The Effects of Injury Type on Health-Related Quality of Life in Youth Athletes: A Cross-Sectional Analysis”, was published in the January 2024 issue of the Clinical Journal of Sports Medicine.
